MINUTES OF THE MEETING
TARIFFVILLE VILLAGE ASSOCIATION
May 25, 2006

The meeting was called to order by John Nagy at 7:27 PM.

(Please note that the March meeting was canceled so people could attend the meeting at Tariffville School the night before regarding the referendum.  Note also to change the date of May meeting next year so as not to fall on same day as Tariffville carnival)
Minutes accepted as written.
-- Not enough present for elections.

i.                MEMBERSHIP - No Report
ii                FUNDRAISING AND NON-PROFIT STATUS-JOAN NAGY: John indicated we need zoning changed from Commercial to Park zone. Sue Bednarcyk stated that is not correct and that underlying zones vary on the town parks. She said that they should be able to accept it with the existing zone. Sue will follow-up with Rich as to why they said to change it. Culture, Parks & Recreation went over history of parcel that we want for town Green, our vision for it, and how the parcel fits in. Parks & Recreation was encouraging and said to move forward. They said to go to Planning; however we have already gone before Planning and they liked the proposal. All the plans already exist.  Tom Vincent, Parks & Rec, Zoning and Design Review have all seen the concept. The next step is to look into water and electricity. Parks & Rec are on board with that. John Nagy will go back to Tom to discuss.

iv.        PLANNING AND DESIGN- FRANK HAVILAND: No report.

v.           MAINTAINENCE –RICHARD MARTINIK: Deb Kane & Terry Salls were recognized for their landscaping of the Green and islands. Howard Beach is still working on dumping problem behind Checkered Flag.  Application for sign on Green was never renewed, so it was taken down. When we begin fundraising campaign, it will be put back up with a thermometer.

vi.                FESTIVAL - We need to formally invite Dana Pomfret, the Kibbe Brothers and Tom Alvord for music. The Festival is set for September 23, 2006. Need to avoid Rosh Hashana next year. Silent Auction - Jennie suggested that this year we move some of the raffle items to the auction table. Items for children and smaller ticket items would remain in the raffle.

vii.                HISTORIC DISTRICT/ VILLAGE DISTRICT- JANE FENTON: No report

viii.                ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT- JENNIE WINIARSKI: No report

ix.                RECREATION, BIKE PATH, RIVER, TRAILS – BRYAN WEST: John Hampton has said that the news about the Gerston land is encouraging but he has not elaborated.
x.                WEBSITE- WAYNE COSTE, SCOTT GLAZIER: Scott  reports it would be better if we had our own website and he is looking for the simplest, most reliable way. Scott and Wayne will research more this week and will report their findings at a later date. For now they will continue to use the same web-site provider that we have through Wayne. It was also mentioned that we should get permission before providing links on our website. .

xi.                PUBLIC SAFETY- AMY SALLS:  No report

xii.                ZONING COMMISSION:                Frank is still trying to get us on the agenda.

xiii.    REFERENDUM - TARIFFVILLE SCHOOL:  There was a record turnout for the vote on the addition to Tariffville School, 79% in favor - 21% opposed. The project was approved for $6 million. The town will apply to the state for funding for two years from now. TVA has asked to go to meeting for the architectural plan. John reported that Dave Holden was honored at the last BOE meeting. SHS renovation came in $7 million under budget under his leadership. Dave congratulated Tariffville School and is looking forward to working with us.

        Jason Lill’s return from Iraq:
Thankfully, Jason Lill has returned safely from Iraq. He attended this meeting and has presented to the TVA a flag and plaque thanking us for our         continued support of his unit and all the troops. Jason asks that we fly the flag at the Memorial Day Parade and other special events. The TVA will keep these items for the history of  Tariffville. The Association has asked Jason to march in the Memorial Day Parade carrying the flag himself and he has agreed. Brian West will look into getting a special flag pole for the flag. Jason was kind enough to spend some time telling us about his experiences in Iraq. We were all riveted to our seats. Jason has agreed to do another presentation for all at the TVA Festival. Welcome home, Jason and thank you and Christine from the bottom of our hearts for your sacrifice and service to our country.

Preserve America:
