Preserving our Heritage

Tariffville, a village in the Northeast corner of Simsbury, has a long and interesting history.  The tariff which was levied in 1824 on imported wool and woolen goods not only allowed the Tariff Manufacturing Co. to organize, it also gave Tariffville its name.
Fast forward 123 years.  As the  membership in the Tariffville Village Association  (TVA) continues to grow, we’ve worked hard to retain the character of this special place – because it’s our home.
The Village Green is an important element of many small towns in America, a place where we can gather and socialize, hold special events and get to know our neighbors better.
The TVA’s efforts over the last four years have focused on strengthening the community by bringing people together.  The Village Green will be a special place to do just that.

Many people have contributed their ideas and their time to keep the Village Green project moving forward.  Now the time has come for us to raise the funds for the gazebo.  Over the next few months we will be contacting potential donors to raise approximately $125,000 for a Gazebo on the Green.  We hope to raise a significant portion through State grants and corporate donations, but we will also be giving our friends, visitors and villagers an opportunity to contribute to this worthwhile effort.  Although this first phase is dedicated to the construction of the gazebo, there will be opportunities in the future to contribute specific items like benches, bricks and lamp posts which are included in Phase #2 of our plan.  These plans will be clarified as we work through the design and permitting process.

The Gazebo and Green will complete the Village center and will be a focal point for community activities like picnics and musical performances in the years to come.

Planning for the Future

Please join us as we create a significant asset for the Village.  This project is well underway, and it’s time to think about what the Village can be for all of us.We invite you to work with us.  Take a look at the preliminary plans that we’ve developed for the Village center.  And look around at the development and the changes in the towns surrounding Tariffville. We have an opportunity to determine what Tariffville will become in the future. As time goes by there are fewer places like the Village.  It’s a throwback to earlier days, and a simpler time - like taking a step back in time. That’s the way we want to keep it.This is an exciting time in the long history of this Village.  We hope you will support our efforts.
